Get on a good throwing program to prepare for your season!!
Most high school players never gain the velocity they are capable of due to a lack of a pre-season throwing program. One, living in the northeast it is nearly impossible to get outside during the months of January and February and throw. Our indoor facility will provide a proper venue for them to throw during those months. Two, they are not taught the right way to get their arms in shape before the season starts to minimize injury and maximize velocity. These two months are a huge factor in a pitchers future as far as maximizing their potential.
Why pitching specific programming and what do I get?
The Pitching Specific Off-Season Throwing and Training Program will run for 8 weeks at 2x/weekly (16
sessions). The program is designed to incorporate an on-ramping throwing program that transitions to live mound work and simulated games for pitchers. This program includes warmup/pre throwing exercises, recovery/post throwing exercises as well as pitching specific strength, mobility, stability, explosivity, and coordination circuits. Each pitcher will have the opportunity in session to progress through a program that dedicates itself on isolation and connection drills that intend to maximize each pitcher’s ability to increase connectivity of the mechanical chain in their movement on the mound.
The program intends for each player to attain a deeper insight/feel for their body on the mound and develop a more efficient/consistent delivery while preparing their arm for the rigor of the upcoming season. This program will promote better timing in a player’s lower and upper half movement and promote more efficient trunk explosivity which ultimately leads to maintaining a healthier arm and increased control/depth on pitches. Building from the ground up, each participant will have the opportunity to achieve greater balance, increased core stability, and greater leverage for creating a more efficient backside while staying over the rubber. These gains will better equip the player to achieve proper timing (i.e., positive acceleration) needed to achieve greater lower half and upper half explosiveness through pitches delivered.
Velocity gains cannot be guaranteed, but developing a more prepared, healthier, stronger, and efficient/repeatable delivery and total overall pitcher who throws multiple pitches for strikes is the goal heading into the upcoming season. With this stated, velocity gains are most definitely anticipated, but because this is an off-season program velocity cannot be tracked unless you know your velocity before signing up. If you do know your velocity, this will be used as a baseline in programming. Pitchers will be charted, videotaped, and have the opportunity for three 1-to-1 consultations throughout the duration of the program to maximize their performance and success with sessions.
This is NOT a weighted ball program. This is a Full Body, Pitching Specific Off-Season Throwing and Training Program. This program does not denote any singular use of any one instrument, but a collection of training instruments used to train athletes in reaching the goals of their desired sport. Pylo balls will be used, though, their use for throwing will be determined on a case by case basis and never recommended as a result of registry. Weighted balls are available but are only recommended to be used by those players who want to do extra programming which would entail a total of 4 to 5 days a week (additional 1-to-1 service would be required). This additional training price can be inquired about separately and is not included in the pricing of this programming and would be scheduled as availability permits within the facility. Again, this decision will only be made on a case by case basis after consultation with the player and parent; inquiries are welcomed.
So what equipment do we use?
Med balls, resistance bands, pyloboxes, jump ropes, dumbbells, weighted vest, ankle weights, wrist weights, balance ball, ladders, cones, body weight suspension system, kettle bells, pylo balls, weighted plates, swiss exercise ball, abdominal and foam rollers, etc.
If you are interested in getting in a good throwing program to prepare for your season, then look no farther. The program is designed to help with arm strength, velocity and control. This program will operate two nights a week for 10 weeks. This program will be run by our pitching coach Jeff White.
